It's time to move on to something even more ridiculous. No reserve because I'm curious to see what the market's like on these cars.

Instead of selling it for cheap are you willing to trade for a low miles 2003 Lexus ES300 that you can flip and make millions on?

Not I, but the previous owner. Side mirrors are flat black to match the trim, and wheels are AC Schnitzer Type IV. Really expensive as it turns out. Not my style, but someone will like them.

This looks to be very poorly cared for...

Kinja'd!!! Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez > teefen
04/29/2014 at 01:02

Kinja'd!!!1

How so? It has zero mechanical issues, thousands in receipts by dealers and indy shops, and has low miles. Not counting some cosmetic issues, how exactly was the car "very poorly cared for"?

Kinja'd!!! teefen > Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez
04/29/2014 at 01:13

Kinja'd!!!5

Broken switches, missing tow hook cover, cracked spoiler, multiple scratches/dings, dirty interior, worn seats, empty tank, faded emblems, dented hood/kidney grille, worn/dirty trunk, missing floor mats, cloudy fog lights, tons of curb rash... and that's just what I can make out from the (not terribly detailed) pictures.

All of those things are indicative of an owner that doesn't really care - fine for your average Chevy, not a maintenance heavy, high-performance (German) luxury sedan.

You asked.

Kinja'd!!!1

So basically all the things I outlined in the description as cosmetic issues?

I'm also a bit surprised to see that a little less than 1/4 tank as a sign of a car that was poorly cared for. These cars have fuel floats that fluctuate and aren't very accurate, and tend to show lower than what they are.

And dirty interior? Really?

Kinja'd!!!

I've included the entire vehicle history in the description, with receipts for all major work. Again, if you're trying to make the point that this car is somehow worse than what I'm making it out to be, you can stop right there, as I've been extremely detailed and transparent in everything I've written. It is not a perfect car by any means, but it is a great value for the price.

Just want to say "kudos" on the detailed description of the car in your listing, warts and all. FWIW, I'd be much more likely to trust you as a seller based on the fact that you included details on what *wasn't* perfect.

Empty tank? Pardon me but some of us actual get out and drive so excuse the consumption of the fuel that is required to do that. The interior is pretty damn clean too I have no idea what you're getting at. Faded emblems? Sunlight, it happens. My 7 year old Subaru's emblems are in terrible shape.

Sorry but you're just being an ass.

It seems like you're getting some hate, but I just realized I was given an 88 325ix that cost $4k a few years back. This, a car 12 years younger, with more than twice the power, more sophistication, and generally in very good mechanical condition is $1100 more as of now. Granted they're not dorectly comparable but seriously, $5100 M5!!!

Great value and GLWS!

Kinja'd!!! Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez > No Prius Needed

Kinja'd!!!0

Ahh, KBB. The one tool that isn't used in any real-world valuation other than uninformed buyers of 2-year old cars. It says the M5, with its mileage and options, is worth a little more than $10k. Somehow I think it'll go for more than that. :)

An 03 ES300 is a fine car. Market it to college kids that want status and you'll get people who will be willing to pay top market price. :)

Broken (interior) switches, cracked spoiler, dirty interior, worn seats, empty tank, faded emblems, worn/dirty trunk, missing floor mats, cloudy fog lights and tons of curb rash are all caused because people use bumpers as bumpers?

I've always thought they were caused by neglectful owners. I'll have to take your word on that, I guess.

Kinja'd!!! teefen > Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez
04/30/2014 at 21:56

Kinja'd!!!0

Look, I never said it was worse than you made it out to be, I said "This looks to be very poorly cared for..."

Don't get pissy. There's no need to take it personally, either. You've already stated the previous owner was the one that installed the "upgrades" - One would only assume he was also the one mostly responsible for it's current shape. "Ballin' on a budget" and all that.

Nobody's calling you a liar, either. I never said you're trying to pass it off as something it's not. You're right, your description is very detailed. So detailed, in fact, that it supports my original comment of the car not being the best cared for. So why are you taking offense? It seems we agree. I simply stated my opinion(one shared by at least 5 others lol).

No sense arguing, the market will speak in the end. Great E39 M5's fetch upwards of 22,000 with about the same mileage. I'll be extremely surprised if this surpasses $15,000, and even more-so if you paid more than 10 for it.

And of course you show the picture of the passenger side, here's what I was referring to:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I just noticed it's also missing the clutch pedal cover and a bunch of interior clips around the door panel.

"I'll be extremely surprised if this surpasses $15,000, and even more-so if you paid more than 10 for it."

Kinja'd!!! teefen > Freddy "Tavarish" Hernandez

Kinja'd!!!2

Yes! that seems right in-line with what a not-so-well maintained E39 M5 would fetch. So why are you getting so damn defensive?! lol

You seem like a reasonable guy, who knows exactly what he has, and has valued it accordingly. I just don't get why you got so defensive, when we seem to agree. Whatever, "my bad" for stating the obvious, I guess.

Anyways, I still maintain that "All of those things(previously listed) are indicative of an owner that doesn't really care (about maintaing the car properly)". You can't see neglected preventative maintenance items in pictures, only the little neglected cosmetic things that paint a picture of the how much(or little) the previous owner cared about the car and the pride he took in it - and boy, does this poor car have a lot of them.

You know what they say: "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap, high-performance German car"

I knew someone was going to get a sweet deal on this. In my opinion, $11.6k is a great price and I would own it if I weren't already 3 too many projects in the hole. Hopefully, it is going to a great home and ideally, an opponaut.

It's true, when I see a car listed privately with low fuel it tells me the owner might have some financial difficulties. Financial difficulties -> short changed on the maintenance. I know I can't be the only one that thinks this way.

Also, the shiny interior makes the car look greasy and gross in pictures. Not very inviting.

You're the guy who flips cars, right? Why didn't you just do the upgrades yourself and sell it for $15k? Better wheels and fix the worn parts and you'd get $15k yourself, no?

Had an 88 325ix as well. Picked her up for $1500... flipped it for $6K. NO RUST which was odd for a car that lived in CT all it's life. Drove the snot out of it in the snow; she was a beast. I look back and wish I never sold her... and the 93 MB Sportline (w.40K miles... picked it up with 35K for $3500, sold her for $10 with 40K which is my only consolation prize).
